1. Criteria and Eligibility
(1)Non-Chinese international students who are in good health;
(2)Master’s degree applicants must have bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35;
(3)Doctoral degree Applicants must have master’s degree and be under the age of 40.
2.Application Procedures
(1)Nankai University Postgraduate Admittance
A. Submit application materials to the International Students' Office prior to the deadline (March20th);

B.Interview with intended college(March 20th -April 20th)
C.Upon successful completion of the above and admittance into Nankai University's Postgraduate program, applicant's information will then be submitted to Graduates Office for review
(2) CSC Scholarship Admittance
A. The list of scholarship candidates will be finalized and sent to the China Scholarship Council by April 30th;
B.International Students Section will announce results after getting the confirmation from China Scholarship Council by the end of June;
C.Upon announcement Nankai University International Students Section will mail applicants an Admission's Notice as well as Form JW201 -Visa Application for Study in China.
3.Application Materials (in Duplicate)
(1).
Please go to the website athttp://laihua.csc.edu.cnto fill out the online application and print outthe form.Please submit the application form with a photo and signature.(Note: Please fill “10055” as “Agency No.”)
(2)Highest diploma (notarized photocopy). Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.
(3)Official or notarized transcripts. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.
(4)Personal Statement, including study or research plan, personal background, financial situation, personal strengths etc., written in Chinese or English (no lessthan800 words).
(5)Two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors.
(6)Applicants applying for the Chinese-teaching discipline, please submit HSK level 5 or above. Those who have not reached the required HSK level or have no knowledge of Chinese can apply for one year of scholarship-covered remedial Chinese language studies before entering their major studies. Applicants whose native language is not English applying for the English-teaching discipline should provide TOEFL (above 87) or IELTS (above 6.5) score.
(7)Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form(printed by Chinese Quarantine Authority-only required for those whose period of studies in China lasts more thansix months) filled out in English. The medical examinations must cover all of the items listed in theForeigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records-or those without the signature of the attending physician, official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed (stamped) photograph of the applicants-are invalid. The medical examination results will be valid for six months. All applicants are kindly requested to take this factor into consideration while determining when to take the medical examination.
(8)Photocopy of Passport.
(9)Copy of Application Fee Receipt. Application fee is CNY 400 or US$75. Please submit the fee to the Nankai University Registry (the ground floor of Nankai University Student Activity Center). If you need to wire the money, please send it to following account:

II.Confucius Institute Scholarship
2015 Nankai University
AdmissionBrochureforthe“ConfuciusInstituteScholarship”Program
The “Confucius Institute Scholarship” Program is launched by the Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban, in order to facilitate Chinese language promotion and Chinese cultural transmission in the world and provide financial aid for students, scholars and Chinese language teachers worldwide to proceed to study Chinese language in China. The “Confucius Institute Scholarship” Program in Nankai University in 2014 has been launched. The procedures are as follows:
1.Scholarship Categories
- Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to speakers of other Languages (MTCSOL)
- Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Students
- Scholarship for One-Semester Students
Applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens, aged between 16 and 35 (Chinese language teachers in post shall be aged below 45).
MTCSOL
(1)Application Requirement:
A.Outstanding students of Confucius Institutes.
B.Outstanding performers on HSK exams.
C.Winners of the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions for Foreign College Students and for foreign High School Students.
D.Overseas local Chinese language teachers.
E.Outstanding graduates of Chinese language across the world.
(2).Admission time: Fall in 2015
(3).Duration of funding support: Two-Academic Year. (Students shall be subject to an annual appraisal organized by Nankai University in the second academic semester after being enrolled according to the “Annual Appraisal Procedures for Confucius Institute Scholarship”. The eligible students are entitled to continue to receive the full scholarships in the following year.)
(4).Application Requirements:
A.Bachelor degrees or its equivalent.
B.As core of at least 180 on the HSK (level5).
C.A written commitment stating that he/she will be engaged in Chinese language teaching for at least 5 years after graduation.
(5).Certificate: a Master’s degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages and The International Chinese Language Teacher Qualification Certificate.
One–Academic-Year +MTCSOL
The scholarship is provided to Confucius Institute students from Africa and Latin America regions who would like to engage in the Chinese language teaching.

(4)Duration of funding support: Three-Academic Years(September,2015-July,2018)
(5)Application Requirements:
Applicants are required to have studied in the Confucius Institutes for at least 120 class hours, with a score of at least 180 on the HSK(level3) and a score of at least 60 on the HSKK (primary level).
One-Academic-Year Students
A.Outstanding students of Confucius Institutes (Classrooms).
B.Overseas local Chinese language teachers.
C.Winners of the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions for Foreign College Students and for Foreign High School Students.
D.Chinese language teachers from all over the world.
(2)Fields of Study: Chinese Language and Literature; Chinese History; Chinese Philosophy.
(3)Admission Time: Fall in 2015.
(4)Duration of funding support: One-Academic-Year (September,2015- July, 2016).
Score of at least 180 on the HSK (level3) and score of at least 60 on the HSKK (primary level) or has studied in the Confucius Institute for at least 120 class hours.
Scholarship for One-Academic Semester Students
(3)Admission Time: Fall in 2015 or spring in 2016(for those students will register in spring 2016, please scan send copy of application form to sunmeixing@nankai.edu.cn ).
(4)Duration of funding support: One Academic Semester (September in 2015-January in 2016 or March-July in 2016).
(5)Application Requirements: Applicants shall have studied for at least 60 class hours in the Confucius Institute with a score of at least 120 on the HSK (level2) and a score of at least 40 on the HSKK (primary level).
2.Scholarship Coverage and Criteria
(1)Scholarship Coverage: registration fees, tuition, fees for basic learning materials, accommodation fees on campus, a one-off resettlement subsidy, monthly allowance, outpatient medical service and comprehensive insurance for foreign students studying in China.
(2)Monthly allowances are at the following rates:
A.CNY 1,400 for One-Academic-Year Students for 5 months
B.CNY 1, 400 for One-Semester Students for 11 months
C.CNY 1, 700 for Master’s Degree Students( Students of MTCSOL)
(3) The one-off resettlement subsidy is CNY1, 500 for students who will study in China for one academic year or more; CNY 1,000 will be provided to all students who studies in China for one-semester; the one-off resettlement subsidy will not be provided to those who have studied in China for more than half a year before being enrolled.
3.Recruitment Procedures
(1)Personal Application:
A.From the issue date of the Procedures, applicants should log onto the Confucius Institute Scholarship website athttp://cis.chinese.cn, and set up an individual account as:
B.Read information and introduction of host institutes and majors.
C.Complete and submit the Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form online.
D.Submit papery copies and other materials(on the list of ‘application materials’) to recommending institutions (Students in those countries with no Confucius Institutes can post materials personally).
Recommending institutes are responsible for application materials and selecting eligible applicants, and post materials to us (address can be found on the part of ‘contact information’ ) by April 17,2015.
E.Recommending Institutions:
a)Confucius Institutes( independently set-up Confucius Classrooms).
b)Overseas Chinese test centers.
c)Institutions of higher education in those countries with no Confucius Institutes.
d)Educational and cultural offices (sections) of Chinese embassies (consulates).
e)Host institutions for students of Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL).
(2)Reviewing and enrolling of us: we Nankai University are responsible for reviewing the qualification of applicants and submitting the proposed enrollment name list of qualified candidates to Hanban.
(3)Reviewing and informing of Hanban: Hanban will organize an expert panel to make the final selection, and publish the name list of successful applicants on the Scholarship website after mid of June, 2015. Hanban will also inform the host institutes and the recommending institutions, which will inform the applicants.
(4)Post materials: We Nankai University will post “Admission Notice”, “Enrollment Instructions”, “Visa Application Form for Foreigners to Study in China”(JW202 Form) and other related materials to successful applicants through their recommending institutions by beginning of July,2015.
4.Application Documents
Applicants shall hand in the following materials(with a duplicate copy)
(1)The “Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form”.
(2)Photocopy of Passport Photo Page.
(3)Application Statement: An introduction of Chinese language learning background, studying plans and goals learning in China at least 800 characters.
(4)Photo copy of HSK and HSKK Result Report.
(5)Notarized highest education diplomas attained or proof of study.
(6)Reference Letter and Letter of Commitment:
A.Students attending Chinese language programs of universities in countries with no Confucius Institute established shall attach a reference letter signed and issued by the university President.
B.Master’s Degree Scholarship applicants are required to submit reference letters provided by two professors or associate professors (in Chinese or English). A written commitment stating that the applicant will be engaged in Chinese language teaching for at least 5 years after graduation (written in Chinese and sign with signature).
(7)Applicants under the age of 18 shall submit relevant legal documents of entrusted legal guardians in China.
(8)Winners of the finals of the “ Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions for Foreign College Students and for Foreign High School Students in China shall submit the copy of scholarship certificate. Winners of preliminary rounds of the “Chinese Bridge” Proficiency Competitions in their countries shall provide award proof and reference letter provided by the organizers.
(9)Chinese language teachers shall submit certificate of employment and recommendation letters provided by institutes they work for.
(10)Those applying for the Scholarship for Students of One–Academic-Year+ Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages are required to provide the agreement signed with the Confucius Institute or the institute which they will be working for.
5.Entrance and Annual Appraisal
(1)The scholarship winners shall register at the host institutes before the deadline set by the institutes.
(2)Scholarship will not be kept for those who do not register on time without reasonable cause.
(3)Scholarships will be canceled for those who cannot pass the health examination.
(4)Students for a Master’s degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Language(MTCSOL) shall be subject to an annual appraisal organized by the host institutes before the end of the first school year after being enrolled according to the “Annual Appraisal Procedures for Confucius Institute Scholarship”. Only the eligible students are entitled to continue to receive the Scholarships in the following year.
